India’s Chandrayaan‑3 mission successfully soft‑landed near the lunar south pole on 23 August 2023, marking a historic achievement in space exploration and scientific research.
The Vikram lander touched down with a precision of less than 100 metres from the targeted site, deploying the Pragyan rover to conduct in‑situ analysis of lunar regolith and search for water‑ice signatures.
Scientific instruments onboard, including the Alpha Particle X‑ray Spectrometer and the Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope, are expected to provide data on the Moon’s mineral composition, aiding future lunar base planning.
